We were organized in 1877 to “...promote and encourage interests in yachts and yachting, to teach and promote the principles of seamanship and navigation, to encourage the traditions of yachting, to encourage and teach young people in seamanship and yachting, to provide and maintain a suitable clubhouse, anchorage and facilities for the use and recreation of its members.” While prospective members do not have to have a boat, or even be thinking about buying a boat, our organization is focused on the appreciation and enjoyment of Lake Ontario considered by many as one of the best places to enjoy boating.
Many new members take advantage of both our learn to sail program as well as our fleet of 18’ keelboats available to members for a small additional annual fee. We also have a very active and successful youth sailing program for young children all the way up to a competitive collegiate racing program. We sponsor a Rochester Junior Yacht Club with world-class sailing instructors and social events for RJYC members. We also have a pool and tennis courts along with lessons for members and their guests. To top it off, our club house and recently constructed “Burgee Bar” have what we think are the most beautiful views of Lake Ontario and the Genesee River to say nothing of the finest restaurant around.
We have a very active power boat fleet with cruises and social events throughout the season. While we can’t guarantee dockage at the time of membership, we have protected slips with all the amenities demanded by discriminating boaters as well as yard facilities for both indoor and outdoor winter storage.
